Fight of the Night
Max Holloway has been on a winning streak, tearing through the featherweight division. Starting with Will Chope and Andre Filli, he is finding his flow, falling into stride and becoming one of the top fighters in the UFC. In this fight, he has the tough fighter Ricardo Lamas in front of him.
An amazing matchup that promises spectacular action for fight fans!
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Claudia Gadelha I, UFC on Fox, 13 December 2014
Two of the most dynamic and dangerous female fighters. Joanna and Claudia go head to head in a tightly contested match-up. This is the fight where Joanna beat Claudia via a controversial split decision and earned an opportunity to fight for the UFC Womens Strawweight title. It was this fight that opened up the path for Joanna’s success we see today.
Joanna Jedrzejcyk and Claudia Gadelha are set to fight again at The Ultimate Fighter season 23 finale on 8 July 2016. The result of their first meeting was so controversial that it’s best for fight fans to watch and determine for themselves.
Dominick Cruz vs Demetrious Johnson, UFC Live, 1 October 2011
Dominick Cruz is one of the most intelligent fighters in the UFC. He has adopted a fighting style that revolves around an intricate and dynamic pattern of footwork. This footwork allows Dominick to avoid being hit as well as being able to attack opponents from unorthodox angles.
When matched up against one of the most strategic fighters in Demetrious Johnson, fight fans have a dynamic and exhilarating fight on their hands.
Ahead of Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao III that takes place on 9th April 2016, I went and watched some Timothy Bradley fights. The one that stood out the most was the 2013 fight of the year: Timothy Bradley vs Ruslan Provodnikov.
I watch mostly MMA and don’t know much about boxing and boxers. But I do know a good fight when I see one. Timothy Bradley vs Ruslan Provodnikov is one of the most insane, thrilling, violent boxing fights I have ever seen. Whether you are a boxing fan or an MMA fan, I encourage to watch the full fight right here.
Robbie Lawler vs Matt Brown, UFC on Fox Lawler vs Brown, 26 July 2014
Fight of the Night
When fight fans see this match-up, they know it’s going to be a violent and bloody war. Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown are top level welterweights that can not only dish it out, but they can take a good punch as well. This is one of those fights that requires both fighters to take a deep breath, dig deep, and find the fire and the drive to not give up. This is exactly the type of fight that gives this blog it’s meaning. Fight fans are able to draw inspiration from moving performances in the cage like this.
Neil Magny vs Hector Lombard, UFC Fight Night Mir vs Hunt, 20 March 2016
At first glance, fight fans may immediately start feeling sorry for Neil Magny to have drawn this match up. Neil a tall, thin, and lanky fighter facing a muscle stacked Judo Olympian in Hector Lombard. Conclusions are drawn and minds are made up. Then again, you never know what will happen on any given night under the lights in the cage.
Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor, UFC 196, 5 March 2016
The benefit of having a monopoly-like promotion in the fight world like the UFC is that most if not all the best MMA fighters in the world are under one roof. The UFC has the ability to give us fantastic match-ups that are not only fun for the fans but phenomenal for the sport.
One such special fight is Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor. Conor one of the promotions fastest rising stars with legitimate skill to back it up. He has cut through the entire featherweight division on a rampage. But now he meets Nate Diaz, one of the fight world’s favourite rebellious sons with a multitude of fight of the night, submission of the night, and knockout of the night bonuses.
Nobody knows who will win the fight, but what is certain is that it’s going to be an awesome fight to watch.
Johny Hendricks vs Stephen Thompson, UFC Fight Night, 6 February 2016
Performance of the Night
Precision, accuracy, control, distance. These are thing that make Stephen Thompson one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC. He doesn’t rely on brawling, he doesn’t rely on aggression, he doesn’t rely on power. Stephen is all about controlling the distance, watching for openings, and then coming in with deadly and destructive strikes.
TJ Dillashaw vs Dominick Cruz, UFC Fight Night, 17 January 2016
Fight of the Night
TJ Dillashaw vs Dominick Cruz is finally here. One of my most highly anticipated fights this year. Two kings of footwork and movement. Both winning their belts and establishing their names in MMA with awkward strikes and unexpected angles. Dominick Cruz, the one that paved the way, versus TJ Dillashaw, the one that learned and improved on.
This is the kind of fight that didn’t just capture my attention, but captured my entire consciousness from beginning to end. I might have even forgot to breath as my brain melted into the screen – that’s how grossly engrossed I became.
Robbie Lawler vs Carlos Condit, UFC 195, 2 January 2016
Fight of the Night
I often wonder what makes a good fight. One that is worthy of fight fans appreciation. One that is worthy of fight of the year accolades. There may not be a set list of requirements, but it often involves skilled fighters who are willing to leave it all in the ring. We have just that with Robbie Lawler vs Carlos Condit.
Carlos Condit is a crafty and intelligent fighter who uses awkward angles to execute deadly and insistent combinations. Robbie Lawler is a durable veteran who has the patience and the chin to weather the combinations in order to deliver powerful combinations of his own.
A phenomenal fight that is receiving “fight of the year” for 2016 mentions already. Whether you are a fight fan or not, do not miss Robbie Lawler vs Carlos Condit, scroll to the bottom of this entry for the full fight video.
