Diego Sanchez had already established himself in the UFC and the world of MMA. He defeated Kenny Florian to become the very first Ultimate Fighter in 2005. Karo Parisyan was an absolute phenom coming into the UFC. Previous to MMA, Karo Parisyan was a Judo champion training the Hayastan Grappling System under legendary Judo players Gokor Chivichyan and Gene Lebell. Other MMA stars who are students of Gokor Chivichyan and Gene Lebell include Ronda Rousey, Manny Gamuryan, and Roman Mitichyan. In Judo, Karo has six Junior National belts. We see some of his excellent Judo on display in Diego Sanchez vs Karo Parisyan. He was about to compete in the 2004 Athens Olympics trial but he got the call to fight David Strasser in the UFC and the rest is history. Coming into the UFC. Karo Parisyan already had 11 pro MMA fights. He lost his second fight to George St-Pierre and then went on a 5 fight winning streak. He defeated Shonie Carter in WEC 10 to win the WEC Welterweight Championship. Then he returned to the UFC to defeat Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle, Matt Serra and Nick Thompson. Impressive.

Diego Sanchez vs Karo Parisyan
Fighters coming out of their corners like raging bulls, ready for anything. Diego Sanchez is able to establish the take down early. However Karo Parisyan gets to his feet and is able to execute a take down of his own. It is an incredibly action-packed, fast-paced battle on the ground. Both fighters are specialists in different types of grappling styles. Diego in wrestling and Karo in Judo. Karo has a cut under his left eye from an opportune right upper cut that met Karo’s head while Karo was leaning forward for a right haymaker.
As both fighters get to their feet, Karo is able to execute what looks like a Tai Otoshi, an incredible Judo toss sending Diego to the mat. Diego springs to his feet only to provide the opportunity for Karo to hit another judo throw. The fighters finish the round landing simultaneous jabs.
Karo starts the round more aggressive than Diego Sanchz. As if that was even possible. Karo lands a couple of good punches, grabs a single and slams Diego to the canvas. Diego tries to slip out the backdoor but finishes with a sweep. Karo puts Diego back against the cage but Diego finds a way up again. Towards the middle of the round, Diego drags Karo to the ground and applies his own ground and pound. Karo dominates the first half of the round. Diego takes over in the second half of the round.
Karo Parisyan comes out for the third round looking a little tired. Karo looks for the clinch again to take Diego Sanchez down. Diego shakes him off and they exchange punches in the middle of the cage. In between rounds Tito Ortiz who is in Karo’s corner advised him to establish the jab. That is what Karo is doing. Diego Sanchez lands a solid upper cut. Karo marches through the punches, backs Diego up to the fence and picks him up for a take down.
Karo putting through some ground and pound but Diego Sanchez driving through and taking Karo down. Diego takes Karo’s back and tries to sink in a rear-naked choke. Karo escapes but Diego gets the full mount. Ground and pound from Diego. Karo turns and gives his back to Diego again. More ground and pound from Diego. Both fighters are exhausted but they are fighting through it and continue to land. Karo is bleeding from under both eyes now. Karo looks absolutely exhausted.
The fighters meet in the centre of the cage. Karo tries to execute a trip but Diego lands up on top. Diego lands more ground and pound. The different in the fight is Diego Sanchez cardio.
