Dustin Poirier has proven to be one of the top featherweight fighters in the UFC. He has only suffered losses against top contenders in Korean ZombieĀ and Cub Swanson.

Through his 19 fight career, Dustin has shown himself to be a tough fighter with plenty of hear. He has also made a name for himself as an excellent striker with amazing grappling abilities. He has finished two fighters with his signature D’Arce Choke including the promising grappling based Jonathan Brookins.

Dustin trains out of American Top Team where he is surrounded by some of the most talented and tough MMA fighters in the world. Coming into this fight he is riding a two fight win streak against the very tough Erik Koch and the promising TUF winner Diego Brandao.

Akira Corassani was on the same season of The Ultimate Fighter as Diego Brandao. This was the season with coaches Michael Bisping and Jason Mayhem Miller. Akira shared the TUF house with amazing featherweight and bantamweight fighters in TJ Dillashaw, Marcus Brimage, John Dodson, Dustin Page, Dennis Bermudez, Steven Siler, and Bryan Caraway.

During the season, Akira made it to the semi finals but was eliminated by Dennis Bermudez via Guillotine choke in the first round.

Since then, Akira has fought and beaten tough featherweight fighters in Andy Ogle, Robbie Peralta, and Maximo Blanco. He meets Dustin Poirier in this Fight of the Night winning match.

In the first round of the fight, we see Akira really coming into stride early and looking for the overhand right. With Dustin’s style, he should leverage his reach advantage and win the fight with crisp, strategic, accurate striking. A Louisiana native at heart, Dustin never turns down a brawl and engage Akira in the fight.

Akira finds his rhythm early but once the fight hits the mat, Dustin is almost able to set up his D’Arce choke. Akira wisely defends with Dustin almost hitting the Peruvian Necktie. Akira is saved by the bell.
