Eddie Alvarez vs Michael Chandler Ii is the highly anticipated rematch where Eddie Alvarez is coming back to try and reclaim his championship belt. In November 2011, Michael Chandler handed Eddie Alvarez his first defeat in Bellator and took the Bellator Lightweight Championship in an incredible upset win. This was an exciting action-packed back and forth battle ending with Michael Chandler submitting Eddie Alvarez via rear naked choke in the middle of the fourth round. See full fight and background information here. This is the highly anticipated rematch where Eddie Alvarez is coming back to try and reclaim his championship.

Since the first fight, Eddie Alvarez went through some drama with the UFC but, in my opinion, did not lose any claim to being a top lightweight MMA fighter.
In 2012, Eddie cemented his reputation as an exciting lightweight fighter that deserves to be ranked with the best.
In April 2012, Eddie defeated Shinya Aoki to avenge a loss from Dynamite!! 2008. He defeated Shinya Aoki in the first round by TKO. An incredible performance especially given Shinya’s legendary MMA status.
In October, Eddie knocked out Patricky “Pitbull” Freire with a head kick in the last seconds of the first round.
Eddie returns to the Bellator cage after almost a year away to fight Michael Chandler, to reclaim his Lightweight Championship and to become the most dominant Bellator Lightweight Champion so far.

In 2009, Michael Chandler remained undefeated in taking the Bellator Lightweight Championship away from Eddie Alvarez. This was an incredibly significant achievement at the time especially given Michael Chandler’s status as a significant underdog. Since winning the belt, Michael Chandler defended it successfully twice. His second defense was against 2004 Olympic Judo player Rick Hawn who showed and continues to show promise as a top lightweight MMA fighter.
