To all MMA fans, Fedor Emelianenko is nothing less than a god. He combines his super human power with shocking agility and speed to consistently dismantle his opponents. As the MMA audience moved from Pride-centric Japan to UFC-centric USA, it was to the absolute delight of MMA fans worldwide to see Fedor start fighting in the USA. At Strikeforce, he will have the opportunity to meet some of the currently best heavyweight fighters.

Fabricio Werdum also fought in Pride but never got the chance to meet Fedor in the ring. In 2007, Fedor signed with the UFC. With a 2-2 record, he was disappointed with contract re-negotiations with the UFC and consequently moved to the Strikeforce promotion. However during this short period of time in the UFC, we were able to see Fabricio Werdum show off some incredible striking. Previously considered to be a BJJ reliant fighter, he defeated heavy hitter Gabriel Gonzaga and Muay Thai specialist Brendan Vera via TKO punches.

By 2010, Strikeforce had arguably a better stable of heavyweight fighters compared to the UFC. With this incredible list of heavyweight fighters, they were able to put on some attractive shows as well as the 2011 Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Among these incredible shows was Fabricio Werdum vs Fedor Emelianenko.

Fedor starts the fight similar to most all of his other fights. He takes Fabricio Werdum down and starts his ferociously aggressive ground and pound. Fabricio Werdum is a BJJ wizard and may be arguably more comfortable fighting off his back than standing. Werdum sees the opportunity to submit Fedor and allows Fedor to continue to ground and pound onslaught. As Werdum inches his legs higher up Fedors body, he catches Fedor in his signature Triangle Choke.

Fight fans around the world watch with wide eyed surprise, horror, excitement, panic, elation. Even when the Triangle was locked in tight, some of us refused to believe the inevitable.

An absolutely amazing submission in the first round marking the first loss of Fedors perfect career.
