Nate Diaz vs Donald Cerrone, UFC 141, 30 December 2011
Nate Diaz vs Donald Cerrone is the exciting meeting of two ferocious lightweight fighters who have been at the very top of the division for a long time. Although Nate Diaz may be the the fighter with more weapons, Donald Cerrone is on a 6 fight win streak and has been submitting and TKO-ing his way to the top of the weight division.
Nate Diaz vs Donald Cerrone is an awesome and explosive match-up where the result will be significant for both fighters in molding a path to challenge for the lightweight title.

Donald Cerrone was at the very top of the WEC lightweight division. He lost a close fight (but won the rematch) against Jamie Varner the former WEC lightweight champion. He won against dangerous fighter James Krause, and lost the interm WEC Lightweight Championship to Benson Henderson. In fact, Donald Cerrone has challenged for WEC lightweight gold twice and both came up short against Benson Henderson. In the WEC, Donald Cerrone also has wins against Chris Horodecki and Ed Ratcliff.
Since moving to the UFC, Donald Cerrone has proven himself against dangerous opponents in Vagner Rocha, Charles Oliveira and Dennis Siver. All of these fights, I fully expected Donald Cerrone to either have a tough time or to be defeated. Donald Cerrone came through in flying colours, proving himself to be on the road to deserving a title shot.
Nate Diaz made a name for himself in winning Season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter. He defeated the Judo champion Manny Gamburyan in the first 20 seconds of the 2nd round. Since winning the UFC reality show, Nate Diaz has shown himself to be an exciting fighter by winning 3 Submissions of the Night and 3 Fight of the Night awards in a row! These were incredible fights against top lightweight fighters in Josh Neer, Kurt Pellegrino, Clay Guida, Joe Stevenson, and Melvin Guillard.
In addition to his tough and intense fighting style in the cage, Nate Diaz and his brother Nick Diaz have put the Skrap Pack and Stockton on the map. A tough upbringing in a tough neighborhood breeds tough fighters that don’t know quit.
In Nate Diaz vs Donald Cerrone, we see a special and unique style of striking that has been famously called the “Stockton Slap”. Years of training with boxing coach Richard Perez, the Diaz brothers have developed a style of striking that puts more focus on accuracy and placement rather than power. That means when the Diaz brothers are in the ring, they are looking to hit you every time all the time with 40%-50% power. Their striking volume and accuracy is what will put you away.
Nate Diaz vs Donald Cerrone is one of my favourite fights to watch because you not only see the intensity that these fighters bring to the cage, but you also see Nate Diaz’s Stockton Slap utterly dominate a form Muay Thai champion.
This is totally a lazy Sunday fight. When you have the time for a three round fight and just want to see someone really good at something do just that. Please enjoy
