Nate Diaz started MMA following his brother Nick Diaz off the streets and into Cesar Gracies Jiu Jitsu Academy. He has built a fighting career for himself that is arguably more entertaining and full of more memorable fights than his bigger brother. Although Nate has never worn a championship belt, he has more fight of the night and submission of the night bonuses and perhaps even more intensity while in the cage when compared to Nick.

Gray Maynard used to be a phenomenal lightweight fighter. Coming from a high school and college wrestling background, he joined the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter. Ever since beating Dennis Siver in 2008, he has stormed through the lightweight division. He leverages his wrestling and his strength to control and dominate opponents. During this streak of wins between 2008 to 2010, he has defeated UFC lightweight talents such as future lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, Jim Miller, Roger Huerta, and Kenny Florian.

Gray Maynard has a 6 fight winning streak and just won a split decision victory over Roger Huerta. Nate Diaz on the other hand has established himself as one of the most exciting and intense fighters in the UFC. Although he has not won every fight since winning The Ultimate Fighter, each and every one of his fights has been either a submission of the night or fight of the night performance.

Nate Diaz vs Gray Maynard II was a phenomenal back and forth fight and ended in a split decision win for Gray Maynard.

Nate Diaz vs Gray Maynard III

In 2013, both Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard have established themselves to be incredible fighters. Gray Maynard challenged Frankie Edgar for the belt twice. Nate Diaz challenged Benson Henderson for the belt. Both fighters are coming off of losses. Nate lost two consecutive fights against Ben Henderson and Josh Thompson. Gray Maynard is coming off a razor thin decision win against Clay Guida and a loss against TJ Grant.

In order to stay on top and stay relevant in the fast paced and talent stacked lightweight division, they must win.

The contest turns out to be a display of Nate Diaz’s “pitter-patter” boxing style. He wears out Gray Maynard and takes over the fight winning via TKO punches in the first round. An absolutely brilliant execution of Diaz brother boxing and the effectiveness of accurate but 50% power punches. Lets also not forget the intensity that comes with the “Dont Be Scared Homie” style of fighting.
