Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen I and II (Full Fights)

Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen I, UFC 117, 7 August 2010
Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen II, UFC 148, 7 July 2012

anderson silva vs chael sonnenFrom 2006 to 2013, the UFC Middleweight division was dominated by one of the best MMA fighters of all time, Anderson “The Spider” Silva. He surgically and systematically destroyed every single opponent the UFC put in front of him, defending his Middleweight Title 10 successive times. He destroyed Rich Franklin with knees. He rained elbows down on Travis Lutter while having him in a triangle. He choked Dan Henderson out with a rear naked choke. He even danced his way to victory against Demian Maia. It got to a point where Anderson Silva and the Middleweight division started getting boring to watch. Anderson Silva made every single fighter in the division look like they didn’t have the talent and the training to compete.

Junior dos Santos vs Stipe Miocic I (Full Fight)

Junior dos Santos vs Stipe Miocic, UFC on Fox Dos Santos vs Miocic I, 13 Dec 2014
Fight of the Night

junior dos santos vs stipe miocicIt’s no secret, all fight fans love a stand-up battle, especially between heavyweights. In Junior dos Santos vs Stipe Miocic, we have two of the best heavyweight fighters in MMA, both with boxing backgrounds, and both willing to battle to the death.

For a long period of time, the UFC heavyweight division was dominated by Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. They defeated everyone they fought until they met each other in the cage. At the time of their first fight, Cain was the champion. Cain had defeated half the heavyweight division and then champion Brock Lesnar. Junior earned the contender position after beating the other half of the division. Junior won the first fight and Cain came back to win the second to regain his title and the third to retain it.

Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar II (Full Fight)

Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar II, UFC 200, 9 July 2016

Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar IIA highly anticipated fight between two of the best P4P fighters in MMA. But this is not just any normal fight. These are two former champions competing not just with each other, but with themselves. Do they still have it? Do they still have what it takes to make a run for the championship? Do they still have the energy and the drive to train, to grind, to further pursue a career in the cage?

Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor (Full Fight)

Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor, UFC 194, 12 December 2015

conor mcgregor vs jose aldoWhether you are a McGregor fan or an Aldo fan. Whether you believe in the hype or not. Whether you are a fight fan or not. Whether you even care about MMA. This was one of the most highly anticipated fights in MMA history.

I am a fan of both fighters and have been following their professional careers. Jose Aldo from when he was in the WEC. McGregor making his way quickly up the UFC ranks. Followed them throughout the world media tour for UFC 189. Found myself dejected and disappointed when Jose had to withdraw due to injury. Followed the stupid UFC 194 embedded series and even found myself getting emotionally invested. Feeling annoyed at McGregor’s taunting game and feeling frustrated for Jose. For as many times as you hear fight fans say, “kick his ass in the cage, shut him up”. I found myself feeling that and hoping Jose would do the same.

What a huge waste of hope and energy.

Cain Velasquez vs Fabricio Werdum (Full Fight)

Make a comeback Cain! Lets get it on! C’mon!

Coming up the ranks, as a contender, and as a champion, Cain Velasquez was able to break every single one of his opponents. His style of fighting combines his unrelenting spirit, his smothering pressure, and his powerful and athletic frame. No matter who he fought, a striker or a wrestler, it seemed that nobody could defeat Cain Velasquez. Until Fabricio Werdum came along and out-struck, out-maneuvered, and out-did the indomitable beast.

Many fighters were picking Cain Velasquez to win. But is it really that big of a mystery why Fabricio Werdum was able to defeat Cain? Now that Fabricio has legitimately defeated Cain Velasquez, has he set the blue print for other fighters to do it too? No matter whether there is a blue print or not, I really hope to see Cain get back in the cage and tear through the heavyweight division once again to get that belt.
