Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen I, UFC 117, 7 August 2010
Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen II, UFC 148, 7 July 2012
From 2006 to 2013, the UFC Middleweight division was dominated by one of the best MMA fighters of all time, Anderson “The Spider” Silva. He surgically and systematically destroyed every single opponent the UFC put in front of him, defending his Middleweight Title 10 successive times. He destroyed Rich Franklin with knees. He rained elbows down on Travis Lutter while having him in a triangle. He choked Dan Henderson out with a rear naked choke. He even danced his way to victory against Demian Maia. It got to a point where Anderson Silva and the Middleweight division started getting boring to watch. Anderson Silva made every single fighter in the division look like they didn’t have the talent and the training to compete.
For fight fans, Jacare Souza vs Yoel Romero is just as big of a fight as the ones on the main card of UFC 194. Jacare Souza and Yoel Romero are both legends in their own grappling sport that made the transition to MMA.
Jacare, one of the best BJJ practitioners ever, picked up some striking skills and became a dangerous middleweight fighters. He was the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion with wins of Tim Kennedy, Robbie Lawler, Yushin Okami, and Francis Carmont.
Yoel Romero is one of the best Freestyle Wrestlers ever and has also made a successful transition to MMA. He has adapted his athleticism to striking and has picked up convincing wins against Tim Kennedy and Lyoto Machida.
Fight fans around the world are eager to find out who will become the next middleweight contender when these two grappling legends meet.
UFC on Fox 8 and UFC on Fox 15, July 2013 and April 2015
Jacare Souza is arguably the best BJJ practitioner in MMA today. The only fighters that may rival him are Roger Gracie who fights on the One FC promotion (see Roger Gracie vs Jacare Souza in one of BJJ’s most legendary fights), Fabricio Werdum who will be fighting Cain Velasquez for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, and Demian Maia who just beat Ryan LaFlare.
Since turning to professional MMA in 2003, Jacare has consistently improved his striking to show the fight world that he isn’t just a grappling wizard. Victories over Tim Kennedy, Robbie Lawler, Yushin Okami, and Gegard Mousasi prove that he is a UFC Middleweight title contender. And oh by the way, he was also the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion.
Recently we have seen Jacare Souza paired to fight Chris Camozzi, twice. Both times was due to late replacement of Souza’s original opponent having to pull out of the fight due to injury…or fear…
Jacare Souza vs Chris Camozzi doesn’t give us very exciting or even very relevant MMA, but it is just so awesome to watch what a BJJ super star can do to an average fighter. It is beautiful, it is artistic, it brings tears of admiration to the eyes. Boy I wish I could do something, anything! as well as Jacare does BJJ.
Yoel Romero and Jacare Souza: Two masters enter the cage in what could have been the most exciting fight on UFC Fox 15.
Words could not describe how disappointed I was to learn of Yoel Romero’s injury and that the fight scheduled between Yoel Romero and Jacare Souza would have to be re-scheduled yet again. Despite the depressing and unavoidable circumstance we find ourselves in, lets take a closer look at these two awesome masters of fighting.
Yoel Romero and Jacare Souza are two fighters worthy of admiration. They have spent their entire lives devoted to mastering one martial art. That type of mastery, that type of devotion, that type of purpose is something I often wish I had in my life.
Coming into the Yoel Romero and Jacare Souza fight on 18th April 2015, lets take a minute to admire how far these grappling champions have come in MMA. Below find Yoel Romero vs Tim Kennedy and Jacare Souza vs Gegard Mousasi II.
Luke Rockhold is a fighter I just love to hate. For no good reason. Maybe because he’s too good looking. But Luke Rockhold is legit.
Luke Rockhold just signed a new 8 fight deal with the UFC. According to Fight Matrix rankings as of 20 November 2014, he is currently 6 best in the world right behind Ronalda Jacare Souza and Anderson Silva. But why is it that for some reason I don’t think that Luke deserves to be there?
He’s one of those fighters that I just love to hate. And for no good reason. I mean for goodness sake, he was the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion! He’s a good fighter! But I just love to hate him. Like Jon Jones. Not sure why I don’t like Jon Jones either. Possibly one of the best Light Heavyweight fighters in MMA history and possibly the best Light Heavyweight Champion in UFC history. Him and Luke Rockhold. Love to hate them, don’t know why.
MMA media continuously tells me that Luke Rockhold is too good looking for MMA. And I’m starting to think, or convince myself, the reason why I don’t like him is because I’m jealous of his devilish good looks. Perhaps it’s because he suffers from the Brad Pitt syndrome. Not the syndrome where he can’t recognize faces. The syndrome where he was too good looking for people to accept that he was actually a really good actor. Even for this post I was thinking of putting up a Luke Rockhold weigh-in picture. But decided to replace it with a picture of him getting knocked out.
Despite fans like me, Luke Rockhold has put in his time, his work, and his sacrifices to be a top MMA fighter. He is able to set aside the benefits of being pretty and even continuously puts his physical appearance and well-being to the test in the cage. That’s worth something. Luke Rockhold is legit. Luke Rockhold deserves to be in the top 10 middleweight ranking. The UFC middleweight division is getting interesting and it’s great Luke Rockhold has his new deal ’cause I want to see him get beat.
Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns, Las Vegas, 15th April 1985
Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns is “The War”. A thrilling fight for the ages all fight fans can enjoy. Marvelous Marvin Hagler defends his middleweight titles against the dangerous contender Thomas “The Hit Man” Hearns.
Marvin Hagler is one of the most dominant and powerful middleweight champions in boxing. He successfully defended his belt 12 times and holds the record for most knockouts in the middleweight division.
Thomas Hearns was the current super welterweight and light middleweight champion. Going into this fight, Hearns is coming off his second round knockout of legendary Roberto Duran. Hearns is the first boxer to accomplish this.
In what is referred to as the best three rounds in boxing (and perhaps the best first round) Hagler and Hearns display true heart and iron chin. The fight later won “Fight of the Year” from The Ring Magazine.
Originally promoted as “The Fight” but has become known as “The War”. A thrilling fight for the ages and a classic for boxing history. This fight was one of the first fights that turned me on to combat sports.
This may not be an MMA fight, but this is an incredible battle between two boxers who have made a name for themselves through tough fights in the boxing ring. We at Cage Inspiration always appreciate and respect fighters that have skill, heart, power, and seek to “leave it all in the cage”. This fight deserves to be in the Best of the Best fights archives. If you have seen Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns before, this is always a fight fan’s treat. If you haven’t seen this fight yet, you must.

Wanderlei Silva vs Brian Stann gives Wanderlei the opportunity to return to fight in Saitama, Japan after almost seven years away. Wanderlei’s last fight in Japan was in Pride 33 where he and Dan Henderson gave an incredible performance in Dan Henderson vs Wanderlei Silva II.
This is the arena where Wanderlei built his reputation as the frightening Axe Murderer. This is the country where he ruled as Pride Middleweight Champion. At UFC Fuel 8 Japan, Wanderlei Silva return’s “home” where he finds an incredibly tough and game opponent in Brian Stann.
